In 1986 he graduated from the College of Art in Sydney where he studied sculpture and jewellery. His first exhibition took place the same year thanks to a grant from the Australian Craft Council. He presented Lockheen Loundge, an aluminium deckchair that became an iconic piece of the 1980s. He then moved to Japan and Paris where he opened a studio in 1991.
In 1997 he moved permanently to London where he founded his own company, Marc Newson Limited. In conjunction with this activity, he was creative director at Qantas Airways from 1995 to 2015. In 2014, he joined Apple to create the Ikepod watch.
A variety of collaborations
Interested in a wide range of disciplines, Newson works with major brands and companies in a wide range of sectors.
