History of Breguet watches
Breguet is a very old watchmaking brand, founded in 1775 by Abraham-Louis Breguet, who lived part of his life in Paris. This brand is Swiss, and today it belongs to the Swatch Group. Its founder developed the famous “Tourbillon” watch. In 1780, the first automatic watches known as “Perpétuelles” were launched on the market. At the beginning of the 19th century, the brand developed a fall protection system to make movements less vulnerable in the event of an impact. The brand also launched into jewellery. As a tribute to former writers, the company created a line of fountain pens. Today, Breguet continues to innovate and improve its techniques for producing its models.
How to recognise a Breguet
Breguet watches can be easily identified by their often guilloché or finely enamelled gold dial. The hands are blue in colour. The quality of these watches attracts a rich clientele such as royal families and more recently politicians. In 1783, an exceptional order was made by Queen Marie-Antoinette, the watch had to integrate as many complications as possible. Object of all covetousness, it was stolen from the Jerusalem Museum before suddenly reappearing on the market. Breguet made his first wristwatch in 1810 for the Queen of Naples.
The selling price of Breguet watches
Lovers of luxury watches appreciate the Breguet brand. These watches often sell at high prices. In 2019, a special edition “Harrods” sold for 34,450 euros at Artcurial. In the same year, a white gold chronograph set with diamonds sold for almost 77,900 euros. These watches embody purity and timeless aesthetics and are increasingly valued as Breguet watches.
