Jaeger-LeCoultre Watchmaker
Jaeger-LeCoultre was founded in Switzerland by self-taught Antoine LeCoultre in 1833. LeCoultre was born into a family from the foundation of the commune of Le Sentier, famous for its watchmakers. Antoine created above average timepieces and went so far as to develop the most accurate measuring instrument in the world: the millionometer. He was awarded for his work at the Universal Exhibition in London.
In 1866, LeCoultre and his son Elijah brought together the various trades in a factory. In 1903, Edmond Jaeger, a Parisian watchmaker, asked the Swiss houses to develop and produce the extra-flat movements he had created. The Jaeger brand took up the challenge and presented the world’s thinnest pocket watch. This success was confirmed with the creation of the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand in 1937. Production destined for the United States continued to be called LeCoultre until 1985. Today, the brand belongs to the Richemont group.
Symbolic watch models
Some models have left their mark on the world of watchmaking, such as the Reverso, which was designed to withstand shocks during polo matches with its rotating case. In 1925, Duoplan made it possible to have a concentrate of precision in a small case. This was one of the first watches set with precious stones. In 1929, the Calibre 101 was presented, which today contains 98 components. Other innovative creations include the “Futurematic”, the “Powermatic”, the “Memovox” and the “Geophysic”. The brand continues to excel in innovation by creating more elaborate complications.
Variable selling prices depending on the model
Watch lovers appreciate Jaeger LeCoultre watches, their prices can be quite high for the rarest and most sought-after models. In 2019, a watch “Master Grand Tourbillon” sold for 19,500 euros. A “Master minute repeater” sold for almost 42,200 euros.
